Gonzalo Martinez
Owner • Fly Fishing Host • Patagonia Argentina
Massive experience on Patagonia!
Gonzalo Martinez is the owner and host of the lodge, where he oversees the fishing program and welcomes guests throughout the season. A fly fishing guide for more than 28 years, Gonzalo combines his deep passion for angling, hospitality, and fine cuisine to create a truly unique lodge experience.
Born in Buenos Aires, Gonzalo moved to Patagonia in 2003 after spending two years living in Paris, where he expanded his knowledge and appreciation for French cuisine. During that time, he began imagining a place where he could combine his two greatest passions: fishing and cooking. That dream slowly evolved into the idea of building a lodge in one of the most spectacular fishing destinations in the world.
When he first discovered the property near Los Alerces National Park, the land was completely wild and covered in dense vegetation. Today, it has become a welcoming retreat surrounded by pristine waters, breathtaking scenery, and world-class fishing.
Fishing has been part of Gonzalo’s life since childhood. Beyond Patagonia, he has traveled extensively pursuing saltwater species around the world, experiences that continue to shape his knowledge as both an angler and guide. Sharing that expertise with guests is one of the things he enjoys most. Whether guiding on local waters or hosting at the lodge, Gonzalo’s passion for fishing is present in every detail.
His love for food is equally important to the lodge experience. Inspired by his culinary background and passion for ingredients, Gonzalo creates meals that guests often describe as worthy of a Michelin-starred restaurant. The evenings he spends cooking at the lodge are always memorable.
Outside of guiding and cooking, Gonzalo enjoys tying flies, gardening, and exploring the world of wine. Two years ago, the lodge planted its first vineyard, and he looks forward to producing his own Pinot Noir and Chardonnay in the coming years.
Gonzalo is also the proud father of Felipe and Julia, both born and raised in Patagonia — what he considers his greatest accomplishment and best work ever.
A lover of seafood, fine meats, and desserts, Gonzalo spends the entire season at the lodge, always available to share stories, local knowledge, and unforgettable moments with guests.
